Questions families ask us
Who pays for companion care?
Most families in Charlotte County pay privately. Long-term care insurance frequently covers companion and homemaker services, so it is worth checking the policy. Some VA benefits and Florida Medicaid programmes may also help depending on eligibility. Medicare does not.
Will Medicare pay for companion care?
No. Medicare covers skilled home health that a doctor orders, such as nursing or therapy. It does not cover companionship, meal preparation or housekeeping, which is what companion care is. Many families use both at once and pay for them separately.
What is the difference between companion care and a caregiver?
"Caregiver" is the general word for anyone doing the work, paid or unpaid. Companion care is a specific kind of it: non-medical support focused on company and daily life. No nursing, no medication administration, no hands-on personal care.
Is companion care worth it?
It depends on what is actually going wrong. If someone is lonely, eating badly, missing appointments or slowly withdrawing, company and routine change that quickly. If the need is clinical, companion care is the wrong tool and we will say so and point you toward a Medicare-certified agency instead.
